WBCSD North America is the regional office for WBCSD for recruiting, engaging, and retaining members on behalf of the headquarter office in Geneva. WBCSD is an independently registered 501c3 non profit in the United States and operates on a structured basis with WBCSD.
Job Overview
WBCSD’s Products and Materials (P&M) pathway is a member-led effort with emphasis on ensuring that the principles of circular economy are embraced by business organizations globally and we can achieve the necessary resource optimization to meet society’s needs while protecting nature and allowing systems to regenerate. WBCSD is not a lobbying organization, but inclusive in WBCSD’s role is supportive regional and global policy advocacy on behalf of our members, with a need for increasing visibility with policy influencing bodies that seek clarity from business leadership on the circular economy agenda.
WBCSD is looking to engage a P&M/Key Account Manager (P&M KAM) to advance the WBCSD agenda through our North America office.
The Manager will have dual reporting responsibilities to the P&Mprogram leadership, located in Geneva, Switzerland and the WBCSD North America leadership based in New York, as part of WBCSD’s Member Relations team on the P&M KAM capacity. The primary responsibility will be to engage, represent, and recruit North American member companies as a voice of leadership on circular transition, circular economics, circular electronics, and other P&M circular product innovation initiatives, so that business can achieve its circular ambitions in concert with balanced policy and market mechanisms.
Responsibilities
WBCSD can help corporations move towards HOW TO become circular through a Circular Innovation / Transition Journey for its members:
- UNDERSTAND

- Leverage WBCSD CTI Indicators to help corporate members get an understanding of their current level of circularity and future opportunities
- Partner with Ellen MacArthur Foundation's Knowledge Library, Circle Economy's Knowledge Hub, and WBCSD's internal resources to develop a tailored set of inspirational examples for WBCSD companies to understand how they can implement circularity in their operations
- DESIGN

- Develop workshops in partnership with CIRCO, IDEO, CircularX, and other initiatives for WBCSD members to explore and ideate tangible and implementable opportunities to become more circular
- Leverage WBCSD's existing industry initiatives like Built Environment, Packaging, Plastics, Tires, etc. to engage members to collaborate and co-develop circular paths forward that are more value-chain focused
- IMPLEMENT

- Based on outcomes of workshops and discussions, identify existing innovations and solutions that WBCSD members can leverage such as USBCSD's Materials Marketplace, Loop, Trove, Rheaply, Reverse Resources, Circularise, Provenance, etc.
- Connect WBCSD members with Global and North American circular/sustainable innovation ecosystems - ImpactHub, The Circulars, FashionForGood, XCompany, gener8tor, COIL, Recycling Partnership, RISN, etc. - or corporate startup/venture studio resources - GSSN, StudioHub, etc. - to develop or scale new circular solutions in partnership with entrepreneurs and innovators globally
- MEASURE

- Collaborate with WBCSD's carbon measurement initiatives, organizations like Carbon Disclosure Project, etc. to help WBCSD members monitor and measure the carbon impacts of their circular economy activities, creating a link between circularity and carbon mitigation
- Collaborate with WBCSD Vision 2050, UN Global Compact, Doughtnut Economics Action Lab, Stockholm Resilience Center, UN SDGs, and other macro-level indicator organizations to measure the wider impacts of WBCSD members' circular economy initiatives on global sustainable development and progress towards future vision goals
- Map existing network of WBCSD members, their circular economy interest, and how they are connected to each other through collaborations/partnerships, etc. - utilize these insights to promote circular economy collaborations and joint initiatives
- Map prospective companies or potential companies of interest to WBCSD to become a part of its network and utilize the NetworkBD approach to see which of these companies would be best to prioritize based on the network effects they could generate
- In coordination with the North America office, represent WBCSD P&M and NA interests with potential grant making organizations and foundations
- Support current and prospective members on understanding value and opportunities of engaging in WBCSD’s P&M pathway work area
- Representation as a subject matter expert at targeted events on the priority topics associated with circularity and in the context of WBCSD’s P&M priorities
Responsible for high-quality member experience and further deepening and broadening member’s engagement (cross-selling), collaborating closely with project teams and outreach functions. We are looking for a person that
- Builds and maintains trust and good quality relationships with member company representatives and ensures coordinated interfaces between WBCSD colleagues and the member
- Understands the strategic priorities and challenges of companies; monitors member performance and engagement, strategic outlook, insights, latest news, etc.
- Collects, updates and maintains critical member data and information, tracks evolution of relationships including organizational changes, key contacts etc.
The ultimate goal is to increase the member experience and to contribute in sustaining and growing our member base in order to achieve long-term success in accelerating the system transformations needed for a net zero, nature positive, and equitable future .
- Keeps up to date with WBCSD offerings that match member’s priorities.
- Works with members to identify opportunities for leadership & engagement, ensures members are aware of value add and all information relevant to their engagement.
- Ensures the upselling of value within the member company organization
- Inform the WBCSD Geneva program and WBCSD North America on gaps, opportunities, and accelerators for NA and global member impact
- Establish and execute a member recruiting strategy prospecting members and increasing NA company representation in overall WBCSD membership.
Qualifications
• Education level
- MS/PhD education in circular economics, environmental sustainability
• Experience
- At least 5yrs, preferably 6-8yrs, experience in product/materials/circularity and account management in the United States (experience in Canada and Mexico is also welcomed)
- Experience preferred in prior NGO or corporate ESG roles
- Connections with landscape of think tanks, advocacy organizations, and advisors in the circularity realm
• Specific skills
- Grasps critical understanding of environmental, social and governance elements on their impact
on business
- Experience in aligning ESG and circularity in the context of business performance
- Demonstrated communication and presentation skills and experience
- Demonstrated moderation skills
- Skills using Microsoft applications and CRM systems preferred
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written, additional languages would be beneficial but not required

The position is full-time and based in New York at WBCSD North America, but will also require occasional national and international travel. Some consideration for residing and operating in a remote location will be given pending the qualifications of the individual.
