Job overview 

This manager role, reporting to WBCSD Transport and Mobility director will focus on automotive industry carbon emissions, and support a group of leading automotive manufacturers and partners to enhance existing Scope 3 carbon emissions accounting and reporting practices. By orchestrating collaboration between WBCSD members and partners, the manager will harness the group’s lifecycle emissions analysis expertise to align methodological frameworks. This will be followed by pilots for high emissions commodities (Steel, Aluminium, Batteries…), and a wider cross-sectorial consultation before publication and advocacy in coordination with the carbon transparency partnership network. Sharing a proven common methodology and piloting on steel, the project will deliver demand signals for transparency and low-carbon materials in the automotive industry. 

Responsibilities and duties 

As a Manager in Mobility you: 

  • Own and animate the project plan in collaboration with WBCSD key partners, experts and stakeholders. 
  • Are the center of expertise for automotive industry carbon emissions inside WBCSD 
  • Support the development of sectorial rules and frameworks to calculate and exchange product-related scope 3 emissions for the automotive sector 
  • Publish interim and final methodological frameworks for scope 3 carbon emissions, including their communication 
  • Guide and co-design specific pilots using minimum viable digital prototypes for data-exchange shared by partners 
  • Represent the organization in external events and workshops related to carbon transparency  

 Qualifications 

To join the team, we would expect you to bring: 

  • A master-level education in Environmental and/or Sustainability science  
  • 5 to7 years' experience in field of carbon emissions accounting and reporting, ideally with expertise in automotive industry 
  • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience of life-cycle assessment and/or GHG accounting applied to products (product carbon foot-printing) and ideally automotive sector 
  • Knowledge of emission data exchange protocols and the related digital tools requirements is a plus 
  • Conversant with corporate environmental reporting and pledges such as CDP and Net Zero commitments, and target setting programs such as Science Based Target initiative and the Climate Pledge 
  • Track record in shaping and leading multi-stakeholder projects to fruition 
  • An existing network of LCA practitioners and sustainability across the automotive supply chain would be a plus

The position is full-time for an initial fixed term of 12 month with potential for extension and based in Amsterdam but will also require limited international travel once the pandemic is contained.

The position is based in Amsterdam, Geneva or London, but will also require international travel with flexibility.
