Progressing in the decarbonization journey  implies  an  in-depth  transformation  along  with  sustained  innovation  in  business  models  and products. To assist our member companies, in 2021 WBCSD launched its climate program Safe Operating Space for 1.5°C ("SOS1.5"). The program accelerates corporate decarbonization implementation and advance climate accounting:   

  • Accelerating the transition to Net Zero: capacity building and how-to guidance on building a decarbonization strategy and its operationalization across the business   
  • Advancing Climate Accounting: collective climate standards advancements with a focus on the GHG Protocol  

Job Overview

We are seeking an intern to support the Climate Accounting and Standards team. The team, as part of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol secretariat, is developing the GHG protocol land sector and removal guidance which will go through pilot testing starting in September 2022. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the climate accounting and standards team and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol secretariat in 
  • reviewing, pilot testing and final publication of the  pilot testing of the land sector and removal guidance and  
  • managing a multi-stakeholder process to update and/or develop additional guidance for the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 and 3 Standards 
  • Execute research that bolsters the strategy and workplan.  
  • Assist the running of day-to-day activities of the climate accounting and standards team, which includes the delivery of the various workstreams, regular group meetings and one-to-one calls with WBCSD members and partners. 
  • Support the coordination and delivery of workshops, webinars, facilitated meetings and other virtual and in person events. 

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree, or equivalent in environmental science or sustainability.  
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards, corporate GHG accounting and reporting, scope 3 accounting for different sectors, life cycle assessment (LCA), and related subjects is preferred   
  • A thorough understanding of the current “state of play” of global decarbonization and the challenges of corporate decarbonization, as well as a passion to transform this. 
  • Excellent analytical and research skills  
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint presentation capabilities. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, other languages welcome. 
  • Good team spirit and the ability to build, nurture and work effectively in teams of partners/stakeholders, able to interact with senior representatives of member companies.  

Learning outcomes for the students 

  • A clear understanding of the corporate climate and GHG accounting and landscape, including the challenges, opportunities and key carbon reduction levers. 
  • Active involvement in the project, enabling the development of leadership skills. 
  • Overview and input in COP27 deliverables, gaining visibility on COP processes and how businesses contribute. 

The internship position is full-time for a period of 6 months and based in a country with a WBCSD office.
