We do this by engaging executives and sustainability leaders from business and elsewhere to share practical insights on the obstacles and opportunities we currently face in tackling the integrated climate, nature and inequality sustainability challenge; by co-developing “how-to” CEO-guides from these insights; by providing science-based target guidance including standards and protocols; and by developing tools and platforms to help leading businesses in sustainability drive integrated actions to tackle climate, nature and inequality challenges across sectors and geographical regions.

Job Overview

WBCSD’s built environment pathway focuses on the transformation towards a fully decarbonized, circular, nature positive, equitable and resilient built environment. The project engages global companies along the full value chain to overcome the siloes and fragmentation and collaborate towards a common vision.

We are looking for an Intern to help us prepare for a strong and impactful presence of the work WBCSD and its members are leading on built environment at the next UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP27) in Egypt in November 2022. This will involve i) engaging in the preparatory meetings with  the #BuildingToCOP Coalition, of which WBCSD is part of, ii) support the organization of a Buildings Pavilion in partnership with the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) and the We Mean Business Coalition, and , iii) support the further development of the narrative on Market Transformation towards a Net-Zero Built Environment, which WBCSD is leading under the GlobalABC.

The Intern, Built Environment, will report to the Senior Manager, Built Environment. This is a 100% fixed term position (6 months), based in Geneva, Amsterdam or London.

Responsibilities and duties

The Intern will support the following activities:

Events:

  • Support planning and coordination of building related activities at COP27 (Built Environment Day, Buildings Pavilion, still TBC)
  • Help create advocacy opportunities for business to profile their ambitious targets and action in the run up to and during COP27
  • Provide input to the planning process of the #BuildingToCOP Coalition and GlobalABC COP27 Task Force.
  • Assist in the organization of logistics
  • Support the organization of meetings, workshops, webinars and events.
  • Participate in meetings/events as needed

Communication

  • Support the drafting, reviewing, finalization of documents, publications or press releases
  • Assist with WBCSD and members’ communication activities related to COP27.

Research and Engagement

  • Support the Manager in further developing the narrative on Market Transformation towards a Net Zero Built Environment; help convene 1-2 online workshops with members of the GlobalABC network; and support the creation of clear deliverables for COP27
  • Assist in identifying, aligning and engaging key partners

Project management support

  • Support the Manager in day to day activities
  • Draft minutes and notes
  • Assist in handling member requests and queries
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholder to disseminate work outputs
  • Research, analyze, present and develop short briefs of latest developments or key publications

Qualifications

  • University degree (Master or Bachelor) in a discipline related to Sustainability, Communications, International Development, or Political Science
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills to anticipate, plan, organize and self-monitor workload
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and deliver on project timelines/deadlines
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven research and analytical skills and aptitude to read various reports and articles
  • Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel proficiency
  • Proven fluency in English, both written and spoken, other languages welcome.
  • Good team spirit and the ability to build, nurture and work effectively in teams of partners/stakeholders, able to interact with senior representatives of member companies

The position can be based in Amsterdam, or London.
