The World Business Council for Sustainable Development is a CEO-led organization of forward-thinking companies that galvanizes the global business community to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment. Together with its members, the council applies its respected thought leadership and effective advocacy to generate constructive solutions and take shared action. Leveraging its strong relationships with stakeholders as the leading advocate for business, the council helps drive debate and policy change in favor of sustainable development solutions.

Since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement, both in 2015, we are now entering an exciting phase of work in the Climate & Energy Cluster at WBCSD. Ambitions are high across all our projects and 2016 has now seen the beginning of real progress on agreed action plans aiming to transform the economy.

The flagship program under Climate & Energy is the Low Carbon Technology Partnership initiative (LCTPi). A key part of LCTPi is our work on transport that focusses on sustainable fuels and low carbon freight.

To scale up deployment of sustainable fuels, we have created a campaign called below50. This business solution is unique in that it brings together the full supply chain (incl. producers, consumers, technology providers and investors) to collaborate on creating the market for the world’s most sustainable fuels.

For the Low Carbon Freight project, we are currently focusing on designing and deploying a first-of-a-kind data and asset sharing platform to reduce GHG emissions from road freight transport. This work focusses on a demonstration project in the UK starting in 2018.
