Description

Ceres, World Wildlife Fund, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation are seeking a top-notch communications strategist or firm to help us coordinate and execute communications efforts pertaining to a collaborative effort: the Conservation and Financial Markets Initiative.

The Conservation and Financial Markets Initiative is aimed at engaging financial markets and companies around the world to accelerate sustainable food production practices to protect the Earth’s ecosystems as well as human rights in food supply chains. Each organization is conducting its own work as part of the initiative; however, together they have formed a Cross-Cutting Communications Working Group to facilitate and leverage information exchange, joint planning, coordination and execution so that the impact of the whole is far greater than the sum of the parts.

Duties of the Consultant:

The consultant will carry out work assigned by the Cross Cutting Communications Working Group, as follows:

  1. Facilitate and leverage information exchange, joint planning and coordination and execution between the four organizations by planning, setting the agenda for, and facilitating monthly conference calls and periodic in-person meetings.
  2. Develop and help to implement a single overarching Conservation and Financial Markets Initiative communications strategy, including messaging, deliverables and a timeline.
  3. Execute components of the strategy, as directed by the Working Group.
  4. Regularly review and assess progress against the communications strategy to ensure continued alignment with the overarching plan.
  5. Report progress weekly to Ceres, the project partner supervising the contract.

Timeline:

The initial contract covers a six-month period, beginning in early April. The contract may be extended, depending on the contractor’s performance. The Conservation and Financial Markets Initiative is a multi-year collaboration.

Compensation:

Compensation is a flat fee of $50,000, to be paid monthly. Level of effort will average 20 hours/week.

Qualifications:

  • For individuals, 10 years of experience in non-profit communications, marketing and media relations, required. Bachelor degree, required. Graduate degree, preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in conservation, sustainable agriculture, climate change or sustainability issues, including an understanding of business and the investment community, preferred.
  • Track record of developing high-level relationships in multi-partner collaborations to drive communications activities/campaigns.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and executing communications campaigns, preferably for projects with multiple partners.
  • Strong project management and project evaluation skills.
  • Digital communications expertise and knowledge of cutting-edge communication technologies.

1) A brief memo (no more than two-pages) outlining a communications strategy for influencing financial institutions and companies around the world to accelerate sustainable food production practices, 2) a resume, 3) three brief writing samples of relevant work, 4) three references.
