The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global CEO-led coalition of forward-thinking companies striving to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment. We use thought leadership, effective advocacy, and collaborative action to generate business solutions for a sustainable world. The WBCSD comprises around 200 companies from over 35 countries and 22 sectors, collectively representing an estimated:

Recently, WBCSD has developed and launched Action2020, its overall work program to ensure we are on track to make business a driver of global sustainability. For the Climate Change conference in Paris of December 2015, Action2020 has been focused on Low Carbon Technology Partnerships that brought nine scale-able, impactful business solutions. Other initiatives are also underway to influence the sustainability of important economic systems to feed a growing population, much of which living in urban centres.

To meet the ambitious and expected growth plans, WBCSD is looking for a full-time permanent Member Relations Manager, based in the WBCSD Geneva office.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Managing Director of Member Relations, the role focuses on engagement and value creation for members of WBCSD and its work programs. The candidate will work with different stakeholders in the member organization and within WBCSD to ensure sustained, value-generating participation in projects and initiatives
  • The incumbent will also represent a trusted advisor to senior leaders of member companies, illustrate the relevant elements of the value proposition of work programs in WBCSD and nurture opportunities to develop and receive CEO guidance
  • The person that we are looking for has demonstrated ability to surface opportunities for value creation, detect and anticipate concerns of members. She/He triggers the attention of the WBCSD team to the covert needs of companies. Navigates members through engagement peaks and troughs
  • Prepares, develops and tracks leading and lagging indicators of engagement
  • Keeps databases, relevant materials and the pipeline of engagement opportunities up to date
  • Plan, execute and interact with members at key events, including in the organization of high-level meetings and other interface opportunities


  • Ten years of professional experience in Sales and Marketing. Outstanding key account management skills, with proven, successful track record in consultative selling situations
  • Experience of effective interaction at senior levels in corporations, in different cultural contexts. Proven ability to build trusted relationships with corporate decision-makers
  • Excellent, hands-on digital sales and marketing expertise using CRM tools, preferably Salesforce
  • Outstanding networking and influencing skills: an individual contributor (the role has no reports), comfortable with delivering significant contribution through others, independent of status in own or other organisations
  • Passionate self-starter - ability to take initiative and seize opportunities for WBCSD member engagement - independent, proactive outreach. A flexible, fast learner that works accurately under pressure
  • Basic understanding and proven interest in Sustainability
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in English, both written and oral. A second and third European language will provide preferential consideration
  • Enthusiastic about multi-cultural work environment, including some international travel
